Nowadays, children have all kinds of toys. Most of it is bought in stores, and when something becomes popular, everyone has it. So be unique and crochet your own doll for your children. How fun is it that mom (or dad) can crochet more items for their favorite doll? Today I’m sharing the ins and outs of the Basic Doll Pattern, the complete kits to give you a kickstart, and more.
My grandmother knitted dolls for me when I was little. I had a whole family with a mother, father, and two children. I loved playing with them. The only thing that annoyed me was that the clothes were attached to the dolls. They couldn’t change outfits like my Barbie. Nowadays I’m a bit older (yes, I really am) and I love crocheting. I wanted to make a doll that could change clothes, just like my Barbie dolls. And even more: change the hairstyle too! Today I’m sharing the ins and outs of my Crochet Doll Collection, which keeps expanding with new clothes, hairstyles, and complete dolls.
Basic Crochet Doll Pattern
With the Basic Crochet Doll Pattern, you can start making your doll. Change skin tones, eye colors, and more for your unique crochet doll. The pattern comes with a list of skin tones from different yarn brands — from Hobbii to Yarn and Colors, Scheepjes, and more. Choose your favorite brand and start crocheting. The Basic Crochet Doll Pattern also includes instructions for making beautiful eyes. Again, pick your favorite yarn brand and colors and keep crocheting.
More Hairstyles
In real life, people change hairstyles — so why not dolls? Because the dolls all have the same size, you can swap hairstyles between multiple dolls. Go for a blonde ponytail or brown hair with long, curly locks. Same story: mix and match and your child will love it. Make hair accessories to match the outfit. There is also an instruction on how to use “real doll hair.” It’s not that difficult, and you can buy this “real doll hair” through webshops such as AliExpress, Amazon, and larger (online) craft stores. This hair is the same as used on dolls like Barbie, Bratz, and more. The instructions are available as a free download.
Small tip: is the “wig” too big for the doll’s head? Simply add some elastic thread inside the cap and pull it tight. That way the wig will fit any doll.
Same Outfit, Different Color!
Vary the colors in the outfits I’ve designed. This way you can use one pattern multiple times. Add a small flower to the skirt or make stripes in the dress. Everything is possible — just let your creativity shine! Do keep in mind that if you change the hook size for the doll, you must also adjust the hook size for the clothing. If you increase the doll’s size, increase the hook size for the clothing as well. Otherwise they won’t fit. And always measure between rows :) then you know for sure it will fit.
Complete Kits
You can start with just the Basic Crochet Doll Pattern, but a starter kit might be helpful. I offer various complete doll pattern value bundles with the Basic Crochet Doll Pattern, hairstyles, outfits, and accessories. This way you make one doll, and from there you can add more clothing, different hairstyles, and more. You can use the Basic Crochet Doll Pattern for every new doll in your collection.
