You may have seen the name before. In this post, everything about the yarn cake label Dutch Fiberista, my personal yarn brand. Before my website was called Crochet Bakery, but I do more than crochet only. So the name Crochet Bakery didn’t fit anymore and a yarn brand under the same name… nah. A new name had to be found, and soon the name Dutch Fiberista came to mind. After a quick Google search, I saw that this name wasn’t yet in use, so the registration was quickly arranged. In this post, more about my own label Dutch Fiberista and all the yarn cakes! Will you read along?
I love crocheting and nowadays also knitting, although I’m better at crocheting. In the past I bought all kinds of yarn from different webshops, which was totally fine. Still, it started to bother me when I crocheted a scarf and the yarn cake I ordered didn’t have the color gradient I had actually hoped for. After thinking about it for a long time, I first sold all my leftover yarn. I can hear you thinking: you did WHAT? Yes indeed — I offered all my yarn from different brands through the well-known sales channels, and surprisingly I got rid of most of it quite quickly. With that money I ordered separate yarn cones with thin yarn, specially made to be twisted together with other threads to create a thicker strand on one yarn cake.
That also led to the purchase of a yarn winder — yes, one of those small ones from AliExpress! It did the job perfectly for what I needed. After making a number of yarn cakes, I posted a message on Instagram. Just a simple “look what I made,” and it received lovely reactions. People asked where they could order this yarn cake themselves… and which brand it was… uhm… my own brand? But Crochet Bakery is more about me personally — my crochet and knitting projects, patterns, and finished items. And that’s how Dutch Fiberista was born!
Dutch Fiberista: yarn cakes and more!
By now Dutch Fiberista has grown into a larger yarn brand, but it is still based in my own workspace upstairs. It’s filled with yarn cones in all kinds of colors to create beautiful yarn cakes. You’ll also find special Lurex glitter threads on a dedicated shelf, adding just that little bit of extra glamour to the yarn cakes. Gorgeous in scarves and other crochet and knitting projects. I currently have a number of yarn cake colors available on the website, but my ideas are endless and I already have a long list of cakes I’d love to make. The only problem: time. Since I have a regular job, the yarn cakes come after that. And just like everyone else, I don’t feel like sitting in my workspace every evening winding cakes. So most of it happens during the weekend — restocking sold yarn cakes, developing new ones, reordering cones that have run out… It’s practically a full-day job, but I still absolutely love it.
From 100 meters up to 1 km long
The yarn cakes from Dutch Fiberista vary in length from 100 meters — the smallest size — all the way up to 1 kilometer! Yes indeed, the largest acrylic/cotton blend yarn cakes can be ordered up to 1000 meters. I also have a few special cakes made with very thin thread, twisted together with sewing threads. These cakes contain 1400 meters of yarn and can be crocheted or knitted together with a companion thread in, for example, a solid color. Think black or white. This way you still get a beautiful scarf with thicker yarn, but with a thin gradient thread running through it. Super fun to try!
Besides the 1000-meter yarn cakes, you can also order starting from 100 meters. These small balls are very suitable for small projects — think mandalas/doily patterns, edges for doll clothes, and more. The 100-meter cakes are the same as the 1000-meter versions, but with all the gradients packed into 100 meters of yarn. Isn’t that fun? You can order them individually or as a bundle in a box of six — the “bonbon boxes.” You can even compose a box with your favorite colors in one package. Something for everyone.
Dutch Fiberista & Crochet Bakery
Both labels are mine, as you may have already understood above. Crochet Bakery is my crochet and knitting outlet, and Dutch Fiberista is my personal yarn brand. You can also find both on well-known sales platforms such as Vinted. If you would like to order yarn or supplies, you can always do so here. The only thing is that the shipping costs are quite high, which is why I decided you can place an order here. I will complete your order and then list it via your own Vinted account. That lowers the shipping costs and saves you money — so you can add that extra yarn cake to your order!
You can find me as a “brand” under both names on Vinted. Just search for Crochet Bakery or Dutch Fiberista and various items will appear. I try to keep a clear separation, but the easiest way is to simply go to my Vinted account. There you will see all listings of yarn, supplies, and crocheted items that you can order directly.
See you there?
Love,
Adinda
